“Time have changed so the church must review its position as far as it’s views of homosexuals are concerned… especially as a doctor, I don’t know whether there is a biological basis for it, a psychological basis for it, or simply a persons choice. I don’t know.”

This is the reaction of Prof. F. T. Sai to comments made by Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey of the Presbyterian Church- Ghana, who described homosexuality as unbiblical, un-African, abnormal and filthy.
Prof Sai, challenged the basis of the Reverend Minister’s assertion, as inconsistent with biblical doctrine. ( 24th June 2011)

When it comes to advising the public appropriately on which particular behaviours and attitudes to be promoted in reaction to health issues like homosexuality, we should not behave as if its net debilitating effect is inconsequential or a fad in a season.

We live in a very challenging time of human history, the period the bible refers to as the “end time”. This period is characterized by the appearances of multiplicity of humanistic philosophies. Like any false doctrine, the venom of humanistic philosophies is deadliest when it comes in contact with ignorance. The ignorance of sincere but grossly mistaken people is a pitiful sight to behold. In today’s non-discript generation where passion replaces reason and everybody is a law to himself, where there is no right or wrong, so no one feels ashamed; all things are equal, so there is no critical thinking, religious convictions are considered private, each one following his own direction chanting a popular truism…”when it feels good do it”.

However the ultimate test of our civilization is what we do to correct the wrongs in society and how we handle the children coming after us. We need to tell ourselves and our children that there are certain boundary lines that cannot be crossed with impunity? There is no end result in life that provides limitless possibilities without some parameters. Though the social libertarians in our society may find great ecstasy in the moral laxity, the persuasive but inordinate sexual contour being introduced into the sacred institution of marriage by homosexuals, it is time to remind ourselves that homosexual act is wrong medically and also evil in the sight of God. It has its spiritual roots in the book of Genesis 6 when the human Deoxy Ribonucleic Acid (DNA) was corrupted by Angels who did not keep their first estate, had sex with the daughters of men resulting in the birth of a hybrid mutant race forcing God to wash away the then world. (Jude 6&7) In this article, I want to show why homosexuality is not healthy for those who engage in it.

Every human part or organ was made to perform a specific function in God’s own wisdom.
The female vagina as made by God has certain advantages compared to the rectum which function as a passage for the expulsion of fecal matter. The vaginal area does things relatively sterile as compared to the rectum.

Interestingly even if a woman in cleaning herself does not do it properly, and introduces fecal matter into the vaginal area, it could lead to an infection. The composition of fecal matter involves a blend of various bacteria and other organisms.

The vagina as compared to the rectum can expand to accommodate things as large as a baby’s head and miraculously return to its normal size. This has got to do with the muscle layers and anatomy of the area as compared to the rectal anatomy, and specifically the anal canal whose sphincter is unable to go through such versatile manoeuvres as the vagina.

The rectum is significantly different from the vagina with regard to suitability for penetration by a penis. The vagina has natural lubricants and is supported by a network of muscles. It is composed of membranes that allow it to endure friction without damage and to resist the immunological actions caused by semen and sperm. In comparison, the anus is a delicate mechanism of small muscles that comprise an “exit-only” passage. With repeated trauma, friction and stretching, the sphincter loses its tone and its ability to maintain a tight seal. Consequently, anal intercourse leads to leakage of fecal material that can easily become chronic. This is referred to as anal incontinence, a condition that makes the person resort to the use of pampas.

Due to the relatively simple connection between the anus, intestines and therefore blood, any organisms that are introduced into the rectum have a much easier time establishing a foothold for infection than they would in a vagina.

The anatomy of the anal canal cannot withstand the friction associated with penile penetration, resulting in traumas that expose both participants to blood, organisms in feces, and a mixing of bodily fluids. Interestingly even the nerves arranged around these two different body parts vary in so much that, with the normal passage of hard stool (constipation) the forceful dilatation of the anal sphincter causes much pain to the person. Such pains are even sometimes intolerable for those few seconds; however the normal vagina is able to accommodate greater dimensions than that. That point plus many others rules out the use of the anal canal for sex.

Furthermore, ejaculate has components that are immuno-suppressive. This is what allows the sperm to evade the immune defences of the female and reach the female egg.

Studies have shown that when sperm was inseminated into the rectum of some rabbits, it affected their immune systems. (Science Journal. Vol.224 #4647 pp390-392)

In homosexual relationships, the recipient’s anal sphincter is repeatedly and forcefully subjected to dilatations, and the discharge of semen into the canal also has its disadvantages coupled with the possible exposure and contact of the male penis to human waste. A Canadian student journalist who interviewed me in my office on the position of the Pentecostal movement in Ghana on homosexuality said to me, “Reverend, you talk of infection among homosexuals, but heterosexual partners also get infected”? No doubt, heterosexual partners get infected yet; there are some of the infections that put homosexuals at a higher risk than the general heterosexual population.

The fragility of the anus and rectum, along with the immunosuppressive effect of ejaculate, make anal-genital intercourse a most efficient manner of transmitting HIV and other infections. The list of diseases found with extraordinary frequency among male homosexual
practitioners is alarming: Anal Cancer, Chlamydia trachomatis, Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia, Herpes simplex virus, Human immunodeficiency virus, Human papilloma virus, Isospra belli, Microsporidia, Gonorrhea, Viral hepatitis type B & C, and Syphills.

Other physical problems associated with anal intercourse are: hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anorectal trauma, retained foreign bodies.

Homosexuals practice Oral and anal sex. Such sexual practice produces infections such as herpes and oral cancers. And sexual contact with highly infectious feces infects the victim (Coprophilia). Gays and Lesbians engage in Oral – genital sex and risk been infected with syphilis, and (oral) throat cancers.

Due to the makeup of the rectum with its small muscles, penetration of the penis in this area puts undue pressure on the rectum and causes trauma and friction to the area. Unlike the vagina which was made to endure friction, the rectum as a result of the pressure put on it, gets widened and therefore does not provide sexual satisfaction to the homosexual partners. For them to get maximum satisfaction they resort to a homosexual activity known as Fisting – insertion of the hand or forearm into the rectum. This leads to anal tears etc.

To have an easy passage through the rectum, homosexuals introduce all kinds of foreign bodies like creams and oils with chemical components as well as sexual toys into the anal canal.

These sexual activities has very serious physical and mental effects on homosexuals which includes, anal cancers and trauma, reduced immunity, which also leads to other illness, decreased lives pan, substance abuse like excessive intake of alcohol, smoking and reckless sexual behaviour and of course HIV/AIDS together with infections stated earlier. When homosexuals reach this point where they are faced with the realities of physical health hazards and with what they considered ecstatic fantasy no more the case, they experience mental health effects like depression and suicidal thoughts.

Talking about human rights of homosexuals amuses me for two reasons. Some gays are bi-sexual as well. When Gays do anal sex and turn round to have vaginal sex with women do they tell their female partners about their homosexual status? If they don’t, does the woman in question have human right or not considering the health dangers gays are exposed to? Let us stop joking about human rights and talk about rights that goes with responsibilities.

All of a sudden the Ghanaian Human Rights activists are shouting from the roof tops in defence of homosexuals. Who speaks for the rights of the physically challenged in our society? Our roads, parking places, schools, and worship centres are not designed friendly to the physically challenged in our society. Who really cares?

Considering the financial constraint on our national budget, should we encourage a lifestyle that will certainly put much stress on our budget? And soon, budget allocation for victims of homosexual practices shall also become an electoral issue whereas maternal health units are struggling to financially cope with labour complications and pregnancies whilst child health units, theatre facilities for obstetric surgical interventions are not readily available.
